The Mystics: Persia After Hours at the Getty Villa
The Getty Villa Museum, The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and the Farhang Foundation proudly presented the third and final installment of the PERSIA AFTER HOURS celebrations, honoring the PERSIA: ANCIENT IRAN AND THE CLASSICAL WORLD exhibition at the Getty Villa. This evening's program centered on Iranian mystic poets and featured two premiere performances in the museum's outdoor theatre. The night's performances commenced with the debut of Sholeh Wolpé and André Megerdichian's THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS, with a contemporary presentation of Sufi mystic poet Attar's classic work. The evening concluded with a classical concert by master Mehrdad Arabifard and his ensemble featuring vocalists Shayandokt Abedinimanesh and Khosro Ansari and musicians Mani Bolouri, Aidin Okhovat, and Naghme Sarang. Special thanks to Hamed Poursaee, Oliver Hakim, and Mohtadi Mirak for their pre-concert performances. Thank you to the sold-out audience who joined us to celebrate another incredible Iranian cultural celebration at the Getty Villa Museum. Thank you to the entire staff at the Getty Villa for all their hard work and dedication in making this event a reality.
